STYLE RECAP: FAVOURITE LOOKS OF 2014

As I anticipate the new year, leaving behind the bad moments of 2014, I thought, why not let you guys in on some of my favourite looks the past year. I usually have a diversity in my looks so I will be able to look back at this post next time and see how much I have grown and changed in my fashion sense.(woo sound so exciting). Time waits for no man and I am always up for improving myself!

If you are interested to see regular OOTD posts, feel free to go on my Instagram and like my photos(hey, don't forget to hit the follow button, aye!)

So here are some of my favourite looks from 2014:

Fashion to me is really about individuality. You don't have to own big brands, expensive bags to look fashionable. I like to pick up things that are fairly cheap and turn them into an ensemble(and sometimes my friends say the outfits look atas! thanks!)

I hope you guys enjoy looking at the outfits that I styled. I promise there will be more to come in the new year so remember to stay tune!!

Until next time, xoxo

The end is but just the beginning of something new // LOOKING BACK

I am back!

Hey guys, it has been a while since I last updated this space. And by a while I meant a little over 2 months. 2014 is ending in just a few days' time. How time flies, aye? It is the time of the year where I like to reflect and think through what has transpired throughout the course of 2014. Damn, I don't even know where to start.

Jan - Apr

Starting this year, I was just a fresh 'o' level student, waiting for the poly school term to start. I told myself, it is going to be a fresh start, new school, new environment, new everything. Yes, just like how you thought, I wanted to improve myself, be someone better then whoever I was before. I wanted to be more sociable. I wanted to make more friends. Feeling like I really needed friends and at that point of time in my life, I felt that I needed more LGBT friends, specifically. People whom I can be absolutely comfortable with. Not that I cannot be comfortable with straight people but it was just that moment of helplessness. I'm sure you guys get what I am trying to put across.

Looking at different LGBT forums, I stumbled across The Purple Alliance, an organisation that organises monthly gatherings for LGBT members to get to know each other. So naturally, I signed up for it. The first event I went for went really great. At least I got to talk to people. I was pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

Wanting to have a fresh start away from my secondary school life, I wanted to portray a confident individual that is not afraid to express him/herself. That was like a goal I wanted to work towards. Poly started, I continued with my confident persona and it really helped me gain confidence. It was easier for me now to talk to people, start conversations. Sometimes people ask me how I could be so confident. The truth is, I am not always like that. The most important thing is to let people think you are confident, at the very least. Eye contact is something that is really, really important in my opinion. The good thing about eye contact is that it is also something that you can practice. Back in secondary school, I realised that I never had eye contact with most people that I talk to, teachers especially. I decided it was time for me to do something about it so all I did was looked straight into my teacher's eyes while I was having consultation time(oh god, those were the crazy 'o' level days). At first, I was really afraid. Looking back, I don't even understand why I would be. The fear of people being able to see the lack of confidence in my eyes, perhaps. Basically, that has helped me a great deal in terms of confidence and wow that was a deep moment.

Apr --->

Poly was totally different from secondary school. The people were nicer(at first). I later came to realised that not everyone who is nice to you is genuine about it. I have come to terms with it, it is just how life works, I guess. That will and have not falter my journey to be a more confident person. As you guys would obviously already know, I am not afraid to wear quirky, outrageous outfits. I view this as an expression of my confidence. Having the courage to put on whatever I think looks good on me, and wearing it with confidence is what makes you unique. Dressing up is what truly makes me happy.

Aug - Nov

Later part of the year, I was actually depressed about somethings, mainly relationship related ones(well the fact that I am not in a relationship). Things were made worse when my parents weren't supportive of my gender expression and my clothing options. That really made me sad on the inside but I was so caught up with putting up a confident facade that it all became subconscious. I started to drink more often and get drunk more often. Quickly within a span of a few months, my liver told me it is time to stop. By then, I thought to myself, why am i doing this to myself, aren't i supposed to be someone confident and someone who is able to control his/her feelings? An obstacle that was already in front of me before was made clear, my self esteem. I am still working on that to this day.

Due to this, I could not concentrate in school and i did not do as well as I would like myself to do. My GPA was only 2.8. Another realisation came crashing down. What are you doing, Caesar? You chose this course. You better do well in it. I came to realise that I was so caught up lamenting about my love life, blaming myself for what I am(subconsciously I feel, to be honest). I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone again. Get back on track, be more motivated and work towards why I have joined this course in the first place.

Nov - Dec

November marks the start of the new semester and I really wanted to make things work. I worked harder than I had in the previous semester. Be it doing research, or sewing skirts. One thing that made me very glad was that my lecturers seemed to have seen the effort I put in and they willingly guided and helped me along the way. I am so thankful for that. Although I know there still such a big room for improvement, I truly feel that I have done better than the last semester. I did my best. That's what matters. To me, it is not about the competition. It is not about who is the top of the class. As long as i worked to the best I could, I will not be complaining.

After the term comes the holiday which everyone loves, yipee. This time the holiday is a really short 3 weeks one. I spent the first two weeks meeting up with the people I love and catching up. I met up with Jasmine and Jeslyn from Secondary school. At the same time, I was looking for a part time job, it's about time I stop lazing around and earn that buck. I sent applications to Cotton On but I was rejected. Browsing through Facebook, I saw a post from Wing Tai's page saying they have job openings for part-time fashion coordinators. I went for the walk-in interview and was greeted with a really friendly lady. She was really efficient, she had me placed in a job within 2 days! So currently I am happily working as happy fashion coordinator.

A few months back, Aidil sent me an email proposing a collaboration. We just finished the photo shoot yesterday. Reviewing of the photos and doing up of the blogpost is in progress. I am so excited because there are so many fantastic photos taken from this shoot. Stay tuned!

This year has been a little rocky for me here and there but I got through it. What I have taken from this year is that life is about self-discovery, once you slowly identify the mental obstacles you have, the quicker you can do something about it. Although the year of 2014 has not been very good to me, I still look forward to 2015 for every day is a new day and every year is great for you make it to be.

I hope I haven't bore you out with my lengthy life story of 2014 but remember, a collaboration post is in the works so stay tuned!

A collage recap of some of me being goofy, here's to a great new year ahead!
Until next time, xo

That coat, though.

Marble tanktop - Aegis, Trenchcoat - Uniqlo, Boots - H&M, Bag - Vintage

"A trench coat is a raincoat made of waterproof heavy-duty cotton gabardine drill, or leather, or poplin." - definition by Wikipedia. Funnily, I don't wear my trench coat out because of the rain yet every single time I wear it out it rains. It was raining the whole time I was on the train and thank goodness I was in the train.

Met up with my best friend Jeslyn for a major catch up session because we haven't since each other in like forever. The life of a JC student is so intense, I thought to myself as I was listening to Jeslyn. Moving on straight to year two right after their promotion exercise, lots of project works and presentation even after their promos, so on and so forth. I am kind of glad I chose poly. Besides, studying is just not for me. Fashion is a passion of mine

The school term is starting next week and time is passing so quickly, it's insane. Starting a new term to me is just like a brand new beginning and an opportunity for me to do my very best. As much as I would like to say I did okay for the last semester, I didn't. My GPA was pretty average but we all have expectations, ya. Cheers to a new school term approaching though!

For all the people out there, regardless whether you already have the ideal GPA or you feel you have much room for improvement towards your target GPA, it is time for us to work hard!!

Sweater weather // Updates on life

This particular outfit is actually the part two of the shoot I had with orsqr. (if you haven't read it yet you can click here

The sweater is bought by Orsqr's mom and the moment he pulled it out of his bag, I must say I was in love with it. The black and gold details. Classic. The print is pretty loud which I adore but it is still classy at the same time.

...

It is already halfway into the two-month term break and I wondered to myself, how much have I achieved so far? Just earlier this week, I was set up with an interview with Charles & Keith but unfortunately they decided not to consider me further. I also just sent in my resume to Wing Tai Asia earlier today and I really hope they consider me! fingers crossed. So currently, I'm still in the midst of looking for a job(so if you have any, hit me up!).

Earlier this week, I attended Bernice's parents' wedding dinner and it was fantastic. The food was amazing and the whole atmosphere was amazing. It was just such a pity there wasn't enough time for me to snap an outfit of the night. Something really exciting for me that night was also that Amanda wore her first pair of heels ever! I personally am a high-heels lover so I just love it when my friends wear heels with me! and yes I did wear a pair of 4.5inches heel to the wedding dinner.

Until next time, xx

The Substation x Peranakan Museum // OOTD

 Photos by xsharmine

The Substation is having the Sept Fest and I decided to go take a look. Saw Sharmine's tweet about asking people to hang out and I practically jumped on that cause I have never properly hung out with her before. It was a great time hanging out with her and when we were on our way home, a fashion platform spotted her for street style outfit and she got her photograph taken for that. That is pretty damn cool. Heh.

Unfortunately, we were only able to visit one gallery at the Substation because we went at the wrong time! So it was a little disappointing but the works were still amazing nonetheless.

We were in the gallery for only about 10 minutes before we were done and the Peranakan Museum is just right beside so we thought, why not? Since we were in the mood for museum tours.

the interior is AMAZING

This particular one interests me the most because I just love looking at batik designs

I personally really like the tour at the peranakan museum a lot more than the substation. More so because they were having this exhibition called Auspicious Designs, where they showcased many different altar cloths and also batik pieces. While I was looking at the different altar cloths, I realised how detailed and delicate the designs were.

Not to forget, my outfit for that day. I paired this blue checkered button down with a pair of blue shorts(paisley printed, of course). I have been clashing prints a lot lately and I'm not complaining, that's for sure, heh.
Top - Dad's, Bottom - Thrifted, Neck piece - Topshop, Arm candy - Bonia, Bag - Punk Candy

Do you like to clash prints in your outfit? I know I do!

until next time, xoxo

Outfit: of stripes

Found some time last week to hang out with Leona and of course did some productive things such as taking this particular outfit. My mom recently dug through her old clothes and she found this pair of brand new black & white striped bottom which she decided to give it to me. I was stoked to style it and wore it out the day after she gave me.

Lately, I have seen that the leggings in shorts trend has been quite prominent and I myself really liked the look of that so I decided to pair with it with my trusty black opaque leggings. Planning my outfit around this pair of striped pants, monochrome is the way to go.

Top - TEMT, Bottom - pass down from mom, Chain Necklace - Forever21, Shoes - YRU, Bag - New Look

Hope you guys like this outfit and I will be coming up with another blog post soon about my trip to the museum, so stay tuned!

Until next time, xoxo

Day Made(PART II): Singapore Night Festival

Taken at the Singapore National Museum
It has been almost a week since the Singapore Night Festival and here I sit, thinking about the whole experience. I have heard of the festival last year as well but I didn't make it because I didn't have anyone to go with but this year I'm glad I did.

Met up with a couple of friends before we went. The week before the one I went for the SNF, my group of friends have already been to the activities at the Singapore Art Museum. Seeing that the sky is still bright(mostly because I haven't been to the SAM one) I suggested we go to SAM to go take a look and also go find Amanda, which I have mentioned in the pervious day made post that she will be there selling hand made stickers with the Band of Doodlers!

Kira was talking about this head gear or mask making workshop at the SAM as we walked in and we decided to give it a go. It was actually for like young kids but who cares. I'm young at heart.

SAM workshop

Basically there was already a template we can follow to make this mask. I must say, I am not the most artistic person but I thought it was a really fun time meddling around with sequins, glitter and some feathers.

Night Market @ Queen Street

Look at all the fabulous hand crafted art pieces at the booth!!!! It's difficult not to get awestruck at how detailed the designs were.

I'll just put all the photos for the rest of the night below and basically it's my first ever experience at the SG Night Fest. There will be a short clip of the amazing Earth Harp performance by William Close, so just read till the end!

So here goes:

The amount of people at the museum was really crazy as you can see here! And there's the cute Bao Cai posing for a photo.

The amount of people at the SG National Museum was crazy! Don't know why I really wanted to get that across but yeah.

This photograph speaks to me so much

Bao Cai and I thought that this boy was extremely cute in the fireman outfit so decided to get a photograph. (funny story behind this photo: the little boy's father actually told him to say thank you to me but he said, "say thank you to jie jie(big sister in mandarin)") I honestly don't know what to think of that but well not that big of a deal to me anyways.

Tired me posing and trying to be artsy

Met this new friend Bao Cai and a selfie with him is a must!

This was one of the outdoor art pieces I saw and how cool is this?! These trees are way cooler because they are actually kind of like an optical illusion. If you look at the face at different angles from the tree, you get different faces! When my friends and I squatted down to take a look we realised that all these trees were faces of Buddha.

The really cool drummer and well, I always have a soft spot for guys who play music....

This is the short clip of the Earth Harp perfomance by William Close. He invented the Earth Harp (it's basically like a giant harp made using the surrounding architectures, it's pretty damn cool) and the reason why it is called the Earth Harp was because the first time he ever installed the instrument, he installed the strings to a valley hence the name Earth Harp.

That's all for now and I'm sorry for keeping you guys waiting for so long!
Till next time, xoxo
